Mike
Veiluva has practiced law since 1981 in both the private and public
sectors. He holds Martindale Hubbell's highest "AV" rating and his
experience includes representation of lenders, title insurers,
corporations and public entities in a variety of cases involving real
property and lending problems. In the late 1980s, Mike was a Regional
Attorney with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, where he
managed large volumes of outside litigation and distressed assets,
including the closing of insured banks and thrifts. He joined our firm
as an associate in 1988 and has been a partner since 1996.
Mike is a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
He has also served as an adjunct professor on the topics of
environmental law and land use, and on advisory committees and panels
before both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Nuclear
Regulatory Commission. Mike also serves as a Commissioner Pro-Tem of
the Contra Costa Superior Court.
Over his career, Mike has successfully tried numerous business cases on
behalf of plaintiffs and defendants. He has authored or consulted on
publications including "The Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act in
Environmental Litigation", 9 Ecology Law Quarterly 489, 1981; Trembath,
et al., California Civil Practice, Chapter 14, "Land Use and Zoning
Litigation", Bancroft Whitney, 1994;"Federal Responsibilities for the
Nuclear Weapons Complex Cleanup" Social Justice, Vol. 22, pp. 126-139
in 1995.
Mike was admitted to the California bar in 1981, and is also admitted
to practice in all Districts of California, and U.S. Court of Appeals,
Ninth Circuit. He graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in
1978 with distinction, and went on to the University of California at
Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law and obtained his J.D. degree in 1981.
Mike is a member of the American Bar Association and the Bar
Association of Contra Costa.
Mike’s practice focuses on real property, environmental law,
professional malpractice, financial institutions, class actions and
nonprofit organizations.
Mike was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in April 11, 1956. He is married
with two children, and resides in Walnut Creek, California.
