Firm Overview
Alborg,
Veiluva & Martin is a smaller law firm, conveniently located in
the City of Walnut Creek, a central location in the East Bay region of
the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in real estate and commercial
litigation and related transactional matters. Our clients include title
insurance companies, banks and thrifts, builders and developers, and
other related real estate industries.
We are defined not so much by who we represent as by what we do. Real
estate is our primary focus. Whether representing a large or small
lender in a real estate workout, an attorney being sued for real estate
malpractice, or a title insurer on a coverage issue, we are first and
foremost real estate practitioners. That expertise has launched us into
related practice areas, including general lending law, commercial
collection matters, and class action litigation. Because of our limited
focus, we are known throughout California, and represent several of our
clients on a statewide basis. In selected instances, we represent
individual clients in matters of special interest and expertise to the
firm.
We know that the practice of law has changed remarkably. Clients want
lawyers who are practical, objective, and efficient. They want lawyers
who communicate clearly and succinctly, and make a conscious effort to
offer predictable options, whenever available. We strive to do just
that. We carefully evaluate each new matter, and provide our clients
with a prompt, thoughtful analysis of the client’s options. In
addition, we focus on an early assessment of the costs and benefits of
various resolutions.
Because we are a specialty firm, we do not offer advice or
representation in practice areas such as family law, taxation, personal
injury, or estate planning. We will always recommend qualified counsel
in the community, if we are approached in these fields.
Our partners come from diverse backgrounds. Tom Alborg,
a former regional counsel with Safeco Title Insurance, was a senior
partner of the commercial law firm of Ross, Ivanjack and Alborg, and
later formed the firm of Alborg & Dictor. Tom has a wealth of
experience in real estate and commercial disputes, with a strong trial
background, who also does limited transactional work for the firm’s
lender clients. Tom is our senior partner, bringing a seasoned
perspective to the more troublesome matters we handle. He keeps a
“macro” view of our cases, with a clear perspective not only on the
process, but the goal.
Mike Veiluva's
career includes wide-ranging work for financial institutions, and
service as a Regional Attorney with the Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation. Mike has also enjoyed a broad real estate practice,
including environmental matters. With his FDIC background, Mike
provides a unique perspective for our lender clients. Mike offers his
thoughtful and frequently creative views, and is especially keen on a
focused and practical resolution of disputes. His relaxed approach, and
a willingness to turn issues upside down to find the right answer make
him a vital part of our firm. Mike is our professor, and we, frequently
his students.
Darrell Martin
brought extensive trial experience from his years as a Deputy District
Attorney in Contra Costa County, as well as his years as a civil trial
attorney with a major San Francisco firm. Darrell has eagerly
taken on a broad range of the firm’s real estate and commercial
matters, and has worked to develop the firm’s practice representing
lenders in a broad array of matters – including enforcement of loan
obligations, judicial and non-judicial foreclosures, bankruptcy
representation, and loan workouts. Darrell is always prepared to
take on more, and while the most junior in age, is clearly the most
senior in energy. Darrell shares the firm’s philosophy to serve
its clients at the highest level and always strives to make things
right.
Every case in our office is “our” case. We share our thoughts and
suggest our best solutions. We try to make every task a joint affair,
something in which we all try to participate. This gives us the
opportunity to share our best ideas, and implement them with group
participation. In our firm, we try to ensure that everyone is “vested”
in the decision-making process, so that we produce the best result for
our clients, and for us, as professionals.
Lastly, we all seek to grow professionally. We enjoy our practice and
like what we do. As lawyers, we strive to make each day both more fun
and more fulfilling. We admit this is sometimes difficult.
However, we refuse to abandon our independence, and we are proud of our
ability to provide solid and impartial representation to our valued
clients.
We welcome the opportunity to introduce you to our firm.
